A - Z Handwriting

A - Z Handwriting.png

Teaching handwriting is an important part of developing literacy skills in the early years, and giving students the right tools to practise can make all the difference. That’s why we’ve created a free, comprehensive A–Z Handwriting resource—perfect for Grade 1 and Grade 2 students who are learning how to form letters correctly and neatly.

This resource includes a full alphabet set, with one page dedicated to each letter from a to z. Whether you're introducing letter formation for the first time or reinforcing correct handwriting habits, this printable is a fantastic addition to your classroom or home learning toolkit.

What’s Included in the A–Z Handwriting Resource?

Each page focuses on a single letter and follows a consistent, easy-to-follow format:

  • Uppercase Letter Practice: Students trace the capital letter on the first two lines.

  • Lowercase Letter Practice: The next two lines are for tracing the lowercase version of the letter.

  • Target Sentence Tracing: Each page includes a sentence that uses the focus letter frequently. Students first trace this sentence to practise fluency and letter spacing.

  • Independent Writing: Below the traceable sentence, students copy the sentence neatly on their own.

The handwriting lines follow the train track line style, which helps students understand letter placement—how tall letters should be, where lowercase letters sit, and how low descenders go. This clear structure builds muscle memory and boosts handwriting confidence.

Why Use a Structured Handwriting Resource?

Learning to write letters correctly and consistently helps students:

  • Improve legibility in their writing

  • Strengthen fine motor skills

  • Develop spelling and word recognition through repetition

  • Build confidence when writing independently

  • Prepare for more fluent writing in upper primary grades

How to Use This Resource

This handwriting resource is designed to be flexible and easy to implement:

  • Daily Letter Practice: Focus on one letter per day as a warm-up activity.

  • Small Group or Homework Task: Send pages home for extra practice or use during small-group literacy rotations.

  • Intervention Support: Provide additional practice for students who need help with letter formation.
