Would You Rather Questions

Would You Rather.jpeg

Looking for a fun and simple way to help your students practise persuasive writing? The "Would You Rather" worksheet is a free printable resource designed for Grade 1 to Grade 4 students who are beginning to explore persuasive texts. This engaging activity uses playful questions to get students thinking critically, forming opinions, and justifying their choices in writing.

What’s Included in the Worksheet?

This resource features three fun and imaginative “Would You Rather” questions that challenge students to make a choice and back it up with a reason. One example question is: Would you rather swim underwater without needing to breathe or fly?

For each question, students write down their preferred option and then give a reason for their choice. This helps them begin to

understand the structure and purpose of persuasive writing in an age-appropriate way.

Why It Works

The worksheet introduces persuasive writing in a light-hearted and meaningful way. Students are naturally drawn to questions that ask them to make decisions, especially when the options are creative and a bit silly! These prompts allow them to practise:

  • Stating an opinion clearly

  • Using reasoning to support their opinion

  • Organising their thoughts into short written responses

This is a fantastic stepping stone to more formal persuasive texts later in the primary years.

Classroom and Home Uses

This worksheet can be used in a variety of settings:

  • Independent writing tasks during literacy lessons

  • Discussion starters in small groups or whole-class debates

  • Early finisher activities

  • Homework practice for persuasive writing

  • Creative warm-ups to build writing confidence
