    • hidden sight words embedded in each square.

    • Cut out the squares and hide them around the classroom. This adds an element of exploration and adventure, encouraging students to search for the hidden words.

  1. Reveal the Words:

    • Provide each student with a piece of red cellophane. The magic happens when students look through the cellophane. It will reveal the hidden sight words in the red pixel boxes!

  2. Record the Words:

    • Hand out page 7 to students, where they can write down the sight words they discover. This gives students an opportunity to practice both reading and writing the words.

  3. Extra Challenge:

    • To extend the activity, ask students to transform the sight words from uppercase to lowercase letters, adding an additional layer of learning and letter recognition practice.

Why Hidden Sight Words is So Engaging

  • Interactive & Fun: The treasure hunt-like aspect of the game, combined with the novelty of using red cellophane to reveal words, makes this an exciting task for young learners. Students will love searching for the hidden squares around the room.

  • Promotes Active Learning: This activity engages students physically and mentally, combining movement with literacy practice. It’s a great way to get kids involved in their learning process.

  • Customizable & Differentiated: Since the activity focuses on sight words, teachers can choose which words to feature, allowing you to tailor the learning to the needs of your class or individual students.

Classroom and Homeschool Ideas

  • Sight Word Hunts: Hide the squares in different areas of the classroom to create a fun “reading scavenger hunt” where students can race against each other or work in small teams.

  • Independent Literacy Centers: Place the hidden sight words in a specific learning area where students can quietly work on discovering and recording the words during literacy time.

  • Take-Home Activity: Send the activity home with students to extend learning and encourage family involvement in literacy practice.
