Traceable Number Worksheets

Helping young learners understand the concept of odd and even numbers is an essential part of early math education. At Smart Boarding School, we’re excited to introduce a fun and engaging printable activity called “Odd or Even,” designed specifically for kindergarten, Year 1, and Year 2 students. This interactive activity combines counting, sorting, and recording, providing a

comprehensive learning experience that makes math enjoyable.

Understanding the “Odd or Even” Activity
The “Odd or Even” activity is a hands-on way for students to explore the concept of odd and even numbers using dice, counters, and cute dog-themed printables. This activity allows students to visually and physically sort numbers into categories, enhancing their understanding and retention.

What You’ll Need
To complete the “Odd or Even” activity, you’ll need the following materials:

  • Two Dice: Each student will need two dice to generate random numbers.

  • Printable Pages: Print and laminate pages 2 through 6. Each page features two cute dogs with a dog bowl in front of them, with ten different dog breed variations.

  • Recording Sheet: Page 7 serves as a recording sheet for students to document their results.

  • Counters: A set of counters for each student to use during the activity.

  • Pencil: For recording their findings on the recording sheet.

How to Conduct the “Odd or Even” Activity

  1. Roll the Dice: Students roll the two dice and add up the numbers to determine how many counters to use.

  2. Share the Counters: Using the dog-themed printable from pages 2 to 6, students share the counters evenly between the two dog bowls on the page.

  3. Identify Odd or Even: If one dog bowl has an extra counter, the total is an odd number. If the counters are divided equally, the total is an even number.

  4. Record the Results: Students then record the number they rolled on the recording sheet (page 7) and tick the appropriate column to indicate whether the number is odd or even.

Educational Benefits

  • Visual and Hands-On Learning: By physically manipulating the counters, students can better understand the concept of odd and even numbers.

  • Engaging and Fun: The use of cute dogs and dog bowls makes the activity more appealing, keeping students interested and motivated.

  • Reinforces Counting Skills: Rolling dice and counting out counters reinforces basic counting skills while integrating new concepts.
