What is "Numeral and Number Pegs"?

"Numeral and Number Pegs" is a dynamic game aimed at kindergarten and year 1 students who are learning to count, read, and identify numbers from 0 to 20. This printable resource features multiple pages, each containing four boxes that need to be cut out and laminated. In each box, students are presented with a numeral at the top and three options at the bottom, which could be written numerically, in word form, or represented using MAB (Multibase Arithmetic Blocks) blocks. Students must read the options and use pegs to identify and mark the correct answer, strengthening their number skills and fine motor abilities in the process.

How to Play "Numeral and Number Pegs

  1. Preparation: Teachers print pages 2 to 13 of the resource, cut out the four boxes on each page, and laminate them for durability.

  2. Gameplay: Students select a box and examine the numeral at the top. They then read the options at the bottom, which could include numerals, words, or MAB blocks representing numbers. Using pegs, students identify the option that matches the numeral and place a peg on it.

  3. Skill Reinforcement: As students play "Numeral and Number Pegs," they reinforce their counting, reading, and number identification skills while also practicing their fine motor skills through the use of pegs.

Learning Objectives

  • Number Recognition: By matching numerals to their corresponding representations, students strengthen their ability to recognize and identify numbers from 0 to 20.

  • Reading Skills: Reading the options presented in word form helps students practice reading and comprehension in a math context.

  • Fine Motor Development: Using pegs to mark their answers promotes the development of students' fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
