Understanding 3D shapes is an important part of the primary school maths curriculum, and one of the most effective ways to help students explore them is by building the shapes themselves. That’s where our free 3D Object Nets resource comes in!

This printable download allows students to cut, fold, and create six different 3D shapes, helping them to connect the flat 2D net with the final 3D object.

What’s Included in the 3D Object Nets Resource?

This free printable includes nets for six common 3D shapes:

  • Cube

  • Rectangular Prism

  • Cylinder

  • Cone

  • Pyramid

  • Triangular Prism

To support a wide range of learners and classroom needs, each 3D shape comes in six different formats. Whether your school uses the term corners or vertices, this resource has you covered!

 

The Six Versions of Each Net:

  1. Blank Nets – No labels, perfect for students to explore and label independently.

  2. Labelled with Faces, Edges, and Vertices – Reinforces correct 3D terminology.

  3. Labelled with Faces, Edges, and Corners – Suitable for younger learners or schools that use “corners.”

  4. Face Pictures – A fun, visual version with pictures on each face to support shape recognition.

  5. Fill in Faces, Edges, and Vertices – A great assessment or revision activity.

  6. Fill in Faces, Edges, and Corners – An alternate version for early learners.

This activity is ideal for students in Grade 2 to Grade 5 and can be used in maths lessons, as part of a geometry unit, in maths centres, or even as a take-home project. It’s also perfect for classrooms looking for interactive and differentiated resources.
